Programming Global Community Events Exhibitions Research Programs

A/D/O programming is temporarily on hiatus until we return to regular operation. Please see our roundup of events and activities from the global design community below.

Global Community Events

A curated collection of creative activities, talks, events, and more that are taking place virtually in the upcoming weeks. See below for what's on and submit an event here.

#ColoringFromHome with RxART

RxART is making our coloring book drawings downloadable for anyone to print & color, and collaborating artists are going Live on Instagram @Rxart every weekday at 4 pm EST to talk about their work and show the audience how they color. RxART commissions extraordinary artists to transform children’s hospitals into inspiring environments full of beauty, humor and comfort. Pictured: Collaborating artist @andrewbrischler.

Decameron presented by Triennale Milano

As a response to the country-wide lockdown in Italy, Triennale Milano started a moving Instagram Live event series called Decameron: streaming stories that invites artists, designers, architects, intellectuals and other creatives to enter the empty museum and “develop a personal story”. The initiative was inspired by the book The Decameron by Giovanni Boccacci. Missed the Live event? You can still read about the streamed stories on the museum’s website or relive them on IGTV.

Stay at Home Stedelijk

Every week, Stedelijk Museum will be streaming a live tour through its collections or one of its exhibitions on Instagram (Live Tours will be available on Facebook and YouTube afterwards). The art and design museum will also be sharing mini-documentaries from their most popular exhibitions as well as previews of upcoming programs.

Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA)

While the MODA team is still developing its online program, the museum has already unveiled an impressive line-up of classes and workshops for kids and adults, including a Wash Your Hands & Don’t Be a Racist Embroidery Tutorial, an Exploring Social Entrepreneurship session, and a Minecraft Meetup: Regenerative Architecture for Ages 9-18.

Cooper Hewitt

To help you stay inspired during these uncertain times, Cooper Hewitt wants to inject some wonder and delight into your day by sharing fascinating designs daily through Instagram. The museum also has a couple of virtual exhibitions on Google Arts & Culture, including one on African American Design and another on how the natural sciences have enriched the work of designers. Don’t forget there’s also the Smithsonian Open Access platform.

Lehmann Maupin Viewing Room – Nari Ward and Robin Rhode

Lehmann Maupin presents ‘power wall’, the first double exhibition of work by artists Nari ward and Robin Rhode. This special exhibition launches on the gallery’s online viewing room and opens at the gallery’s Hong Kong location on April 3. The exhibition will highlight the ways both Rhode and Ward uniquely engage with the wall through an accumulation of marks that produce large-scale drawings steeped in socio-political subtext.

Museum of Craft and Design (MCD)

In an effort to make creativity accessible to everyone, the Museum of Craft and Design launched MCD@Home. In partnership with artists and community collaborators, MCD is creating a series of “at-home projects” in line with the museum’s programming and exhibitions.

David Zwirner / Platform New York

With physical galleries and museums temporarily closed, the art community has increasingly turned to digital spaces to share the work of artists and to engage passionate audiences all over the world. With this, David Zwirner introduced Platform: New York, a new online imitative that brings together twelve New York-based galleries to present works digitally.

Loewe En Casa

Loewe En Casa is a series of online events and workshops taking place through Instagram LIVE to enjoy while you #StayAtHome. The first phase of the lineup celebrates craft, innovation and artistic expression, joining with previous collaborators from cultural projects and finalists of the Loewe Craft Prize. The first demonstration was be held by @Idoia_Cuesta - a textiles artisan who will show us her weaving technique with willow.

Vitra Design Museum

On Instagram, the museum has started putting a spotlight on designs that are in some way relevant to the way we live and work from home in the era of COVID-19. Curator Vivian Stappmanns also recently offered an intimate virtual tour on Instagram Stories of one of the museum’s current exhibitions Typology: An Ongoing Study of Everyday Items, which examines everyday objects that are often overlooked in our culture and questions our relationship to them.
