This workshop, led by Research Scientist Jonathan Connell of IBM, explored ways to develop complex motion patterns (i.e., "dancing") with a small robot. The robot can be verbally taught to perform innate actions or sequences as it learns to recognize certain classes of objects with its camera, which then serve as triggers for behaviors. Connected to On Loop’s spotlight on the idea of 'trial & error’ as a creative tool, participants in this workshop taught a robot how to dance and choreograph the robot’s first public performance.

This workshop is a part of On Loop - a participatory site-specific installation created in partnership with Universal and A/D/O by MINI.  The work was commissioned in celebration of Archtober and is an exploration of Future Matter(s), one of A/D/O’s 2019 curatorial themes.
