Claudy Jongstra is known worldwide for her monumental murals of felted wool and silk, whose textured surfaces and nuanced tones reflect an innovative use of natural pigments and organic materials.

In 2001, Jongstra established her studio in the rural northern province of Friesland, The Netherlands where a flock of indigenous Drenthe Heath sheep and botanical dye garden provide both the physical and inspirational foundation for each of her charismatic artworks. The benefits of Jongstra's sustainable and eco-conscious practice are wide-ranging, from increasing biodiversity in the Dutch countryside to transforming the health profile of spaces in which the final artworks are installed. Engaged in collaborative scientific research, Jongstra also recontextualizes centuries of art technological knowledge in her contemporary artistic practice.
