ABOUT A/D/O

WE ARE A GLOBAL COMMUNITY OF CREATORS EMPOWERED BY MINI TO BOLDLY EXPLORE THE FUTURE OF DESIGN.

A/D/O takes its name from the Amalgamated Drawing Office: a team led by Sir Alec Issigonis that built the very first MINI in 1959. In the midst of an acute fuel shortage and widespread urban congestion, this fledgling design studio created a small car to address these pressing social issues – and broke all the rules of vehicle engineering at the time. It instantly became a design icon, and remains much-loved for its distinctive design, go-kart driving feel, and celebration of the unconventional.

The innovative approach taken by Issigonis’ team is central to the ethos of A/D/O. Set up in Brooklyn, New York, in 2016 as a space to welcome the local creative community, A/D/O has quickly grown into an international network of partners and collaborators. We see ourselves as a platform to spark new creative work, and to catalyze exchange between pioneers from diverse backgrounds in the design industry and far beyond.

THE SPACE

A/D/O by MINI is headquartered in a 23,000-square-foot former warehouse, located at 29 Norman Avenue in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Converted by nArchitects, the building serves as a community hub and a multi-purpose space for creative exchange.
